Currently on view is a virtual showcase of selections from my 2016 series, Desert Flowers, via the Northwest Vista College’s PCA Gallery. You can view the online exhibition now. This year marks a 5 year anniversary for Desert Flowers, which took me across four states capturing the desert ecosystem in bloom alongside local queer boys* as an analogical tribute to the perseverance, resilience, and beauty of both desert ecology and queerness in the Southwestern US. The series was also a personal exploration of my own place in the Southwest as a queer male, having been born and raised just outside of El Paso, TX in a border town in New Mexico.

I recently had the opportunity to share some words on my series A New Mexican Burial in El Palacio. You can pick up the magazine at various cultural centers and tourist spots in New Mexico as well as read the article online here. I’ve been working on A New Mexican Burial since the start of 2020, and have learned so much about this state’s past through oral history and burial records. The article gives a little insight as to why I started photographing this series.
